active life-Expectancy
An adult's dominant health pattern has a profound effect on active life expectancy. After age 65, over sixty-five percent of adults still engage in vigorous exercise or competitive sports but only if they are dominated by one particular health pattern!
Employee Medical costs
The mix of health patterns in an employee population can account for over $4,000 of difference in annual allowed medical claims.
prescription DRUG USE
In a sample of over 8,000 commercial health plan members, pharmacy demand over three years was consistently highest among members with one dominant health pattern.
Perceived health status |
In a sample of over 4,000 commercial health plan members, the Health Patterns predicted which health patterns were associated with lowered perceived health status and higher perceived health status. The health pattern impact on perceived health status remained the same irrespective of whether or not the members were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes.
Pharmacy demand
In a sample of over 30,000 commercial health plan members, an actuarial analysis of pharmacy demand over 1.1 million member months identified one health pattern with 132% higher pharmacy expenditures.
health information seeking
In a national sample of nearly 2,000 adults, a person’s dominant health pattern predicted differences in health information seeking based on different motivational goals. Levels of health information seeking were more consistent when motivated by a health issue, like an illness or injury, compared to the goal of being "as healthy as possible." The Health Patterns predicted large disparities in the motivation to be healthy as well as health literacy.
